FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 20

MY PENNYWORTH

Folk Rock

Katikati-based Paul Hoggard and Penelope Rowsell have been playing as My Pennyworth for some seventeen years, the multi-instrumentalist duo performing a variety of music in a range of styles, rhythms and instruments.

While their repertoire is drawn from traditional folk songs of the British Isles and beyond, it embraces country, pop, blues and other genres.

Their arrangements, exceptional musicianship and vocals combine to make an impact much greater than their two-piece line up: from guitar to keyboard, accordion, bodhran and penny whistle – and even sometimes bagpipes – they effortlessly blend traditional material with contemporary sounds. Magical to witness, the tone effortlessly changes with their instruments and repertoire.

As well as performing around New Zealand, the duo have twice toured the UK and Ireland.

EFFORTLESSLY BLENDING TRADITIONAL MATERIAL WITH CONTEMPORARY SOUNDS

With compelling tune-making at their heart, the duo offer considered, stimulating and thoroughly fresh arrangements sprinkled with the characteristic My Pennyworth magic, ensuring a new take on some old favourites and a timelessness to new favourites.

With a passion for singer-songwriting with a Celtic influence, they have released five albums, with their new sixth album imminent: they are excited to bring these new songs to you along with a few of their personal favourites and a few favourites from other artists.

My Pennyworth are at the top of their game and passionate about their music. Their shows leave you feeling uplifted and looking forward to the next one.

A great night that drew in a full house… the audience loved their music.

They played a mixture of covers and their own music.  The audience were totally blown away by their own stuff, the lyrics and harmony and skills displayed between these two musicians was second to none.

There is an audience waiting for their return – the performance that they provided was unforgettable. They played and sang of stories of a folk and mythical nature that is close to the hearts of many people here in Ireland.

The evocative lyrics and Celtic style warmed everyone in attendance, they utilised many instruments in a professional manner and sold many CDs following the gig.

Following this night in the Barn Studio they played in the local hotel where people danced the night away.
