FRIDAY AUGUST 16
Is it comedy
or is it folk music?
Andrew London’s quirky songs will make you laugh out loud as you recognise yourself and everyone around you, and all the prejudices, obsessions, taboos and weird little habits we put out on display, every day, in this funny little country.
There are songs about politics, religion, social status, shopping, teenagers, coffee, neighbours and small town protocol. And insights into the unpredictable and fickle lives of travelling musicians, based on having played a thousand gigs from the woolsheds of Southland to the boardrooms of Queen Street.
Andrew’s guitar skills have contributed to popular trio Hot Club Sandwich, country band The Cattlestops, and numerous collaborations at jazz, folk, country and arts festivals from Queenstown to Auckland, Melbourne to Nelson and Sydney to Saudi Arabia.
The enforced isolation of the Covid lockdown saw he and his partner/bass player Kirsten rearrange his entire repertoire for duo, the results viewable on eight YouTube episodes called ‘Live at The Londons’.
Andrew’s Katikati show, Songs I Wrote When I Was Cross, sees the duo tighter than ever and the songs more concise, with the accent on Andrew’s legendary wordsmithery.
Come along to The Arts Junction and have a laugh at yourself: August 16th.
