ABOUT KATIKATI FOLK CLUB

Supporting folk music

Katikati Folk Club began in 1994 with the aim of supporting and promoting folk music in the western Bay of Plenty.

Our monthly concerts feature a broad range of musical styles and genres from month to month – traditional folk to bluegrass, a capella to blues, solo performers to seven-piece line-ups… and everything in-between.

Local performers

Local performers have included Waterford, Kokomo, Two’s Company, My Pennyworth, Smith & Co, Kaimai Express and many, many more.

We also hold informal blackboard sessions every month.

New Zealand performers

New Zealand guests have included Caitlin Smith, Reb Fountain, Dave Khan, Tami Nielsen, Mel Parsons, Shona Laing, Hot Club Sandwich, The Jews Brothers, Wayne Mason and The Frank Burkitt Band (and many, many more)

Overseas performers

From overseas, we have hosted the legendary Martin Carthy, Norma Waterson and Eliza Carthy, Dick Gaughan, Jez Lowe and Kate Bramley, Eric Bogle and many more.

American guests have included Ruth Wyand, Hungrytown, David Rovics, The Danberrys, The Missy Raines Trio and many others.

Charity nights

Over the years, we’ve hosted many talented performers: we have a wealth of local talent to draw on, and we often hold charity club nights, when the evening’s programme consists entirely of local musicians, with the proceeds going to local charities.
