Penni Feather
From traditional folk and acoustic blues to her originals in a contemporary folk style, Penni loves to connect with an audience through song. Known for her interpretive skills, she brings a wide vocal range and emotional depth to her performances.
After starting out in folk music in Hamilton and Auckland, followed by many years as professional singer in Auckland and Queenstown, in the 2010s Penni was again active on the North Island folk circuit and has guested at Wellington, Aongatete and Hamilton folk festivals.
In the last couple of years Penni has had a one-woman cabaret show in the Hamilton Arts Festival and performed in the inaugural Raglan Blues Festival and with WilkieMac in the Raglan Folk Festival. She has also researched and been performing a set of political and protest folk songs (from the 1600s to the 2020s) which has met with an enthusiastic response from folkie and non-folkie audiences alike.
With soulful vocals - and a sometimes irreverent stage presence - Penni's sets have songs to move, inspire and beguile.
WILKIEMAC
A shared lifelong passion for music brought Lynne Wilkins and Michael Mackinnon together. Performing as WilkieMac, their songs take you on a journey through their original compositions and their Celtic roots. From close-your-eyes renditions of beautiful melodies to songs with rousing sing-along choruses, from the humorous to toe-tapping takes on the unexpected, every song has a story behind it.
Seasoned performers, WilkieMac have been guests at a number of folk, acoustic, arts, and Celtic music festivals in New Zealand and Australia over the years, and frequently tour New Zealand. As comfortable on a big stage as they are in someone’s lounge., WilkieMac have released three highly acclaimed albums on CD and have a fourth is in the works.
Their arrangement skills have earned WilkieMac a well-deserved reputation in the New Zealand folk scene: Michael provides a solid backdrop on guitar and Lynne creates a varied soundscape with flutes, whistles, guilele, harmonicas and guitar. Topped with their blended vocals, a WilkieMac performance will leave you wanting more!
A musical collaboration
Appearing together at the 2025 Hamilton Arts Festival, Penni Feather and WilkieMac enjoyed weaving instruments and harmonies on each others’ songs so much that they have since toured as a double-bill around the North Island: WilkieMac join Penni for some of her songs; Penni adds a third vocal to some of theirs – instrumental variety and plenty of harmonies are guaranteed!
