Friday February 23
Sophisticated jazz, blues, folk…
plus gospel and country soul!
With a sophisticated jazz and blues folk style that soars through to gospel with some country soul, Tuahine features three of New Zealand’s leading ladies in the music world: Kim Halliday (composer, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist), Cat Tunks (vocalist and songwriter) and Krissy Jackson on fiddle.
Kim Halliday has been involved in over 20 bands but is universally known for her work as multi-instrumentalist and principle composer with the highly acclaimed group Pacific Curls which toured the globe for 12 years, performing at major festivals in over nine different countries and producing six albums along the way.
Kim is currently a guitarist with Gitbox Rebellion, Nigel Gavin’s six-piece guitar and cello group, and Kita Trio (gypsy jazz).
Cat Tunks, formerly known as Black Sand Diva, from her band of the same name, has been labelled ‘New Zealand’s Queen of Southern Soul’ for her multi-genre-blending vocal style that dives into gospel, jazz and country roots.
Cat’s strong vocal presence has seen her lead rock and blues acts on many a stage across the country and across the globe. Alongside a career in the jazz world, she’s a vocal chameleon, with many tales to tell through her highly accomplished and prolific songwriting that hails back to her Maori and Irish roots.
Immersed In New Zealand’s folk scene and coveted for her musical ear and dedication to her art, Krissy Jackson is renowned for dancing with melody and tone through the medium of voice and fiddle. Krissy can be found working regularly with The Eastern, Hot Diggity, Symphony, WAI.TAI, The Bootleggin Brothers and others. Taranaki-based Krissy is a leading presence in folk festivals all over Aotearoa, and is a consummate performer.
Krissy, Cat and Halliday are E Toru Tuahine – the three sisters… bookings are recommended for a taste of this exciting new collaboration on the rise.
