Tom Cunliffe writes folk songs like short films: vivid, offbeat, and full of heart.
London-born New Zealand singer-ongwriter Tom crafts lyrical worlds, with a guitar tuned sideways and a voice that balances gravity with joy.
Tom will perform tunes from his new album 'Spit Out Your Gum', recorded live to tape at Roundhead Studios and mastered at Abbey Road.
Tom will be joined by renowned New Zealand producer and multi-instrumentalist Dave Khan (Reb Fountain, Marlon Williams, The Veils) who will accompany Tom’s guitar playing and singing with swooping violin lines and mandolin hooks.
With songs that revel in the joy of the unobserved, this folk duo blends deft flatpicking and unconventional poetry with heart-rending ballads… songs telling stories that come alive for an attentive audience.

“Spit Out Your Gum: songs for shaking off the sitting around and getting out into the world. Seeing new things, meeting strange people, eating dodgy airport sausage rolls, playing folk songs in pirate bars by candle light, lying in the park scoffing pickled onion crisps, dancing on wobbly tables, playing guitar on rooftop mattresses and walking through the city after dark.”
