My Pennyworth

Friday 15th September 7:30pm

Katikati locals Paul Hoggard and Penny Rowsell are singer-songwriters in the folk rock/acoustic music tradition. Their roots are Celtic and there is a little bit of country, rock, pop and blues in their music. They present songs that tell stories about love, dreams, places, people and their Celtic heritage.

My Pennyworth enthral with a selection of instruments that includes guitar, keyboard, accordion, penny whistle… and sometimes even bagpipes! Audiences are soon tapping their toes while clapping along to a rocky beat, swaying to a waltz, and invariably singing along to some catchy choruses.

The duo are passionate about songwriting; each song is a labour of love – sometimes stretching for years – but always having a few songs in the pipeline to them is the fun. After ten years of performing together, they now have four albums under their belts.

We very much enjoyed the music and songs of My Pennyworth – they are not easily catorgorised and that is what makes them so good. Every song has a different style and nobody could get bored by their material and also their great enthusiasm. Paul is a fine guitarist and Penny plays almost everything else: it’s a great partnership and we wish them all the best for the future.

Bath Inn Folk Club, England

A great night that drew in a full house. The audience loved their music. They played a mixture of covers and their own music. The audience were totally blown away by their own stuff, the lyrics and harmony and skills displayed between these two musicians was second to none. There is an audience waiting for their return – the performance that they provided was unforgettable.
